A simple bike computer that offers effective navigation

Describe your products in 3 words.

Uncomplicated. Adventurous. Fun.

How did you come up with the idea for this product?

It was simply a problem that we found frustrating ourselves so decided that instead of complaining we’d try and do something about it! We originally started with the idea of just a beautifully designed compass for a bike, but then thought we could make that smarter – Beeline was born.

What makes your product special?

It’s completely different from any kind of cycling navigation device out there at the moment in so many ways. We’ve put a huge amount of effort into making it beautiful and extremely easy to use. From the strap that connects to any bike in seconds to the intuitive app interface and the month long battery life. Of course the most distinct element is the form of navigation that not only gets you from A to B effectively but liberates you and helps you explore your surroundings

What has been the best part of your experience?

There have been so many great moments along the way. A couple of real highlights have been the Kickstarter campaign, when the world told us they loved what we were making, and then a year on when the first batch of Beelines finally rolled of the production line in their thousands. However, I think the best thing has been building a team of amazingly fun, talented people who we now have the privilege of working with every day

A simple bike computer that offers effective navigation
At first glance, the Beeline Velo leaves you wondering if it’s going to deliver on its promise of simple navigation. However, once you’ve got the app installed on your phone and start trialling routes on the device, the wonderfully simple directional arrows on the small circular screen are all you really need to get from one place to another. Lots of beefy data on the app, which can be teamed up with Strava, means you get a comprehensive dataset from each and every journey too. While some of the controls on the device itself seem a little counter intuitive, once you’ve got to grips with it the no-nonsense design of the Beeline Velo makes it a really practical solution for on-bike navigation, whether you’re riding a pushbike, electric bike, scooter or motorcycle. It’s got a few quirks, with no off switch being the main irritation, but overall the design and build of the Beeline Velo leaves you feeling it’s going to be reliable. Getting started with the Beeline Velo did take us a while, not because of the supporting app, but the device itself is a bit confusing until you’ve fathomed how it ticks. After downloading the very impressive app to your phone, you need to pair it with the device. That bit was easy with no problems at all thanks to Bluetooth doing its job without fuss. Getting out on the road for the first time with the Beeline strapped to the handlebars took a little bit of getting used to, but once you’re in harmony with its directional arrows that move on the screen dynamically it becomes invaluable. The way it works is actually incredibly simple, but it gets the job done to great effect. In fact, while the directional aspect of the device was largely faultless, we were more nervous about the Beeline Velo popping out of its rubberized strap and container combination. It attaches to your bike tightly, but we were left feeling slightly nervous that the tension around the bars might have been enough to make it pop off. It didn’t, but the nervousness remained. There’s a bracket in the box though that presumably lets you attach a lanyard, just in case it pops off if you go over a bump. The way it adjusts dynamically to every move of your handlebars means the Beeline Velo is perfect for navigating really tricky routes such as town and city streets. Out on the open road, meanwhile, it just needs you to give it a cursory glance to check you’re on the right track. Once you get your head around the device itself Beeline rewards you with simple but effective navigation on your handlebars backed up by an impressive app that can be used in tandem with Strava.
